Domenico Mastroianni had a fascinating artistic process: he would sculpt his images on large clay plates, they would be photographed, and then he would destroy the image and render another. Postcards bearing his work were very popular and he was very prolific.
Mr. Mastroianni’s art is considered sculpture éphémère, ephemeral art, due to its transient nature: none of the original plates survive.
This is an antique postcard from my collection. Enjoy!
